Consultation: Future Technologies Investment Plan

Microscopy Australia is inviting the research community and industry partners to provide feedback on its draft Future Technologies Investment Plan.

The draft plan outlines proposed investments in national research infrastructure, digital capability and workforce development designed to ensure Australia remains globally competitive in microscopy-enabled science and innovation over the next decade. It identifies three priority impact areas where future investment could deliver significant national benefit: Critical Minerals; Energy Transition and Frontier Technologies; and Health and Agriculture.

The consultation forms part of Microscopy Australia’s ongoing strategic planning and future investment activities. Feedback received will help guide future investment priorities, inform funding submissions, and contribute to national discussions on Australia’s future research infrastructure needs and capabilities.

The draft Investment Plan builds on feedback received through Microscopy Australia’s 2024 Future Needs Survey and subsequent consultation activities. We are grateful to everyone who contributed their ideas, insights and perspectives, which have helped shape the priorities and proposed directions outlined in the plan.

Researchers and stakeholders are encouraged to review the consultation paper and share their views on future capability needs, emerging technologies, workforce development and digital infrastructure.

Submissions close Sunday 6 September 2026.
