Masterclass: Imaging with High-Speed Bio-Atomic Force Microscopy

20 Nov 2025 The University of Sydney

As part of CryOZ 2025, we will be supporting an ‘Imaging with High‑Speed Bio‑Atomic Force Microscopy’ workshop, to be held at the University of Sydney on 20 November 2025.

This one‑day workshop will introduce participants to high‑speed biological atomic force microscopy (bio‑AFM) and its use alongside cryo‑electron microscopy and negative‑stain TEM to characterise biological samples. With recent advances in faster, more sensitive scanning technologies, bio‑AFM will be used to investigate the topography, biomechanical and bioelectric properties of macromolecules in their native state.

The workshop will provide structural biologists and bioengineers with practical experience in bio‑AFM, covering the underlying theory of the technique and including a series of laboratory demonstrations exploring its capabilities for imaging molecules at the nanoscale.
