Masterclass: Mechanical Characterization in Scanning Electron Microscopes – Approaches and Applications

30 - 31 Jan 2025 QUT Garden Point campus, O-block, room O-314

This workshop focuses on in-situ Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) nanoindentation and other advanced approaches for mechanical testing.

Participants will be introduced to the latest advancements in these techniques, providing an in-depth exploration of how in-situ testing can be applied to investigate the mechanical behaviour of materials at micro and nanoscales.

The workshop aims to:

  • Enhance participants’ understanding and expertise in insitu nanoindentation techniques for mechanical testing.
  • Unite researchers, professionals, and students to establish a collaborative network to advance in-situ mechanical testing techniques.
  • Promote future collaborations and joint research initiatives.

The event is primarily funded by Microscopy Australia, with additional sponsorship from AXT PTY LTD, Coherent Scientific, and QUT’s Centre of Materials Science. It will be structured as a masterclass featuring lectures from leading researchers and application scientists, complemented by hands-on equipment demonstration sessions.

Target Audience

This workshop is designed for researchers, professionals, and students interested in advanced material characterisation and testing. It is particularly relevant for those engaged in developing advanced materials, failure analysis, and mechanical property characterisation.
